The Constitution has as goal to avoid the tyranny of a King, and too much power in one/few hands. The Checks & Balances played a vital role in the development.



Discussion regarding the safety of a standing army and the risk this carried (take over, too much power)



The “Steel case” (1950). Strike and President Roosevelt wanted initially to take over the steel mills. They were essential for US war production. He believed he could take this as an executive decision linked to war, but no (and he backed down).

In war/crises the Executive branch gains more power and freedom to maneuver since the population a scared.

The Constitution (created 1787, ratified 1788) is a guiding beacon, not a descriptive text (some area more descriptive…) A well and clever thought out text by the Framers (Founding fathers of the Constitution)

Politics and military have a constant interplay both in war and peace. (=Clausewitz)
